Word Study
I spent today maping out my whole group word study for the year. In the process I decided my kids needed a reference like the alphabet chart we used in Kindergarten to help them master the hunks and chunks we would review and focus on this year.  I made four different charts one for each nine weeks.  The charts build on past learning while introducing the new learning.

I'm planning on putting copies of these in their reading notebooks, writing folders, and take home folders.  We will also review them each day as part of our warm up.  I tried to pick words that would allow for actions and movement to help the children remember better.  So for like the sn blend we will say, "sn, sn, sn, sneeze" while pretending to sneeze.

Here are pictures of the first and fourth nine week charts:

If you would like to download all four charts you can click here. These are a FREE download using google documents.

Do you have any other ideas for how you might use these? Let me know!
